Week 6 Predictions

Nice catch

It’s week 6 in the NFL and I’v decided to predict the outcome of this week’s games. Just to note, I won’t be predicting the games that will be shown live on Sky Sports since I’ll be doing that in a later post.

Can the 1-4 Philadelphia Eagles finally get their season back on track against the 3-1 Washington Redskins? Can the 2-2 Dallas Cowboys pull off a major upset on the road against the 4-1 New England Patriots? Can the 0-5 Peyton Manning-less Colts get their first win of the season against the 3-2 Bengals? Let’s get to the predictions.

Indianapolis Colts at Cincinnati Bengals

To say that the Colts have struggled without Quarterback Peyton Manning is a major understatement. The 0-5 Colts have looked completely lost on Offense without Manning at Quarterback and have now turned to Curtis Painter with veteran QB Kerry Collins missing the last two games with a concussion.

In stark contrast to the Colts, the Bengals looked to have solved their Quarterback issues with Rookie Andy Dalton leading the team to an impressive 3-2 while throwing for over 1000 yards through five weeks. I see the Bengals winning a close one to move to 4-2. Colts17 Bengals20.

San Francisco 49ers at Detroit Lions

This is a game between two teams on the rise. The 4-1 49ers take on the 5-0 Lions at Ford Field in Detroit. The Lions come into this game on the back of an impressive victory against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football.

The 49ers have vastly improved under new Head Coach Jim Harbaugh. I see this game coming down to a late field goal as both teams struggle on Offense in this defensive game. 49ers14 Lions17.

St. Louis Rams at Green Bay Packers

The Rams travel to Lambeau Field with an 0-4 record and their Offense averaging just under 280 yards per game.

The defending champion Packers on the other hand, are 5-0 and have at times looked almost unstoppable. They are averaging just under 430 yards per game on their hunt to return to the Super Bowl. I expect to see the Packers win this game big. Rams14 Packers35.

Buffalo Bills at New York Giants

The Bills have been on fire so far this season, defeating both the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles on their way to a 4-1 record.

The Giants are 3-2 and looked to have found a solid passing game with Eli Manning throwing to Wide Receivers Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz. I see the Bills getting to 5-1 by defeating the Giants on the road. Bills28 Giants21.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Pittsburgh Steelers

Good luck Blaine Gabbert. He’s going to need it if the 1-3 Jags are to come away from Heinz Field with a victory against the 3-2 steelers and their dominant defense. I expect to see plenty of running from Maurice Jones Drew as the Jags try to limit the pressure on Rookie Blaine Gabbert’s shoulders.

Although the Steelers haven’t been at their best so far this season, I see them having enough to defeat the disappointing Jags. Jaguars10 Steelers20.

Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins

The so called Eagles “Dream Team” have been the league’s most disappointing team this season. After an offseason where the Eagles seemed to be the busiest team in the league, they have started a lackluster 1-4 and there have already been question marks raised over Head Coach Andy Reid’s future.

The Redskins on the other hand, have stayed clear of the offseason headlines and seemed to have rejuvenated Quarterback Rex Grossman’s career on the way to a 3-1 start. I see the Eagles being fired up for this must-win game and coming away from FedEx Field with a victory. Eagles21 Redskins19

Houston Texans at Baltimore Ravens

The 3-2 Texans are coming off a dramatic loss to the Oakland Raiders while the 3-1 Ravens are coming off a bye week. The Texans have just traded for veteran Wide Receiver Derrick Mason to help make up for injured star Andre Johnson.

The Ravens will be fresh off their bye week and I think that gives them the edge in this game. Texans18 Ravens28.

Cleveland Browns at Oakland Raiders

The Browns travel to Oakland knowing it will be an emotional game as it is the Raiders first home game since the passing of Al Davis. The Browns also know that it will be a tough game with both teams at 3-2 and looking to stay in contention in their respective divisions.

The Raiders have been playing solid football all season and I see them getting the win in this game. Browns21 Raiders24

Dallas Cowboys at New England Patriots

The Cowboys are heading to Foxborough knowing that defeat will leave them at 2-3 and struggling in the NFC East.

A win for the Patriots will take them to 5-1 and possibly 1st place in the AFC. Tom Brady has shown he is a strong candidate to repeat as NFL MVP and although the Pats Defense has struggled in defending against the pass, I see the Patriots having enough on Offense to carry them to victory. Cowboys28 Patriots35.

Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears

Both teams have struggled so far this season with the 1-4Vikings sitting bottom of the NFC North and the Bears one place above them at 2-3.

The Bears Offensive Line was terrible in their last game against the Lions, committing 9 false start penalties. The play of Vikings Quarterback Donovan McNabb has also been poor this year as he has thrown for just 849 yards and 4 Touchdowns after five games. I see the Vikings relying heavily on Running Back Adrian Peterson to carry them to victory in this game. Vikings21 Bears20

Miami Dolphins at New York Jets

Both teams desperately need a win to end their respective losing streaks. The Dolphins are 0-4 and Head Coach Tony Sparano looks to be in danger of losing his job.

The Jets are 2-3 and need to quickly improve if they have any hope of fulfilling Head Coach Rex Ryan’s guarantee of winning the Super Bowl this season. I see the Jets getting a win at home. Dolphins18 Jets24.

Remember to check back for the predictions of the games that will be shown live on Sky this weekend.
