Established: 1959

Owner: Robert Kraft

Head coach: Bill Belichick

Stadium: Gillette Stadium

Super Bowl wins: 3- Super Bowl XXXVI, Super Bowl XXXVIII and Super Bowl XXXIX

The New England Patriots, also known as the “Pats”, began life in 1959 as the Boston Patriots. They played in the AFL (American Football League) from 1960 up until 1970 when the NFL was formed.

The team was placed in the AFC East division, which they still play in to this day. The Patriots made their Super Bowl appearance in 1986 (Super Bowl XX) and were defeated by the Chicago Bears 46-10.

In the nineties, the Patriots had a successful period under Head Coach Bill Parcells. Parcells led the Patriots to two AFC East titles and to Super Bowl XXXI, which they lost to the Green Bay Packers 35-21. Parcells left the team in 1996 after falling out with owner Robert Kraft. Current Seattle Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll had a brief stint in charge of the team from 1997-1999. After Carroll was fired, the Patriots traded their first round pick in the 2000 Draft to the New York Jets and hired Bill Belichick. The rest is history.

The Patriots then drafted quarterback Tom Brady in the sixth round of the 2000 Draft and have since gone on to build a dynasty under the Belichick/Brady partnership. This dynasty has given the Patriots 3 Super Titles, an undefeated 16-0 regular season in 2007 and an incredible nine Playoff appearances in twelve seasons.

Bill Belichick is the only Head coach in NFL history to win three Super Bowl titles in four years. A victory in Super Bowl XLVI and Belichick will be alongside legendary Pittsburgh Steelers Head coach Chuck Noll with four Super Bowl wins.

Alongside John Elway, Tom Brady is set to become the only other quarterback in NFL history to start in five Super Bowl games. Brady currently has three Super Bowl wins and a win in this one would put him level with Terry Bradshaw and his childhood hero Joe Montana with four Super Bowl wins. Can Tom Brady lead the Patriots to another Super Bowl victory? Tune in Sunday to find out.

So be sure to check back tomorrow as I reveal the key players for the Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI. Thanks for reading.
