Scouting Report: Trent Richardson
Season Stats:283 attempts, 1679 yards, 21 touchdowns.
College: Alabama (21 Years Old)
Height: 5 ft 11 in
Weight: 224 lbs
NFL Comparison: Steven Jackson
Awards: 2011 Doak Walker Award Winner, 2011 Consensus All-American, 2009/2011 BCS National Championship Winner.
Overview: Richardson is regarded by most analysts as the best running back in this year’s Draft. He couldn’t participate at the Combine due to a knee injury sustained in practice leading up to the BCS National Championship Game vs LSU. Despite this, Richardson is still projected to be a Top 10 pick with many scouts impressed by his combination of power and speed.
Richardson had a highly successful career at Alabama. He was part of two national championship winning teams, (2009/2011) and rushed for over 1600 yards and 21 touchdowns last season after replacing New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram as the team’s starter.
In terms of strengths and weaknesses, Richardson is solid is almost all aspects of his game. Great vision and agility are just some of his strengths but it’s his power that has scouts raving the most. This allows him to burst past most tacklers and his lower body strength is just amazing (As shown by his ability to squat almost 700 pounds). If I had to highlight one weakness to his game it would be his ability as a receiver out of the backfield. Don’t expect to see him make many catches during his Rookie Season.
